The characters are drawn to LAYODIKEYA not because of exploding volcanoes and majestic views, but something called Subtract
They are drawn because they have experienced something called Substract.
The Substract that exists in this corner of space pulls these characters (called Hewns) from almost every conceivable pocket of the known multiverse…They range in size from small to big, and some can fly, others can dig, some can climb, and some are almost unbelievable in their appearance.
These creatures are called “Hewns”, because they are typically used to “cut” or “hew” the valuable liquid Substractfrom the planet surface.
When they arrive from the rest of the universe, the Hewns are tricked, using various coercive and sneaky methods, by the beings that own the giant Gravulator slaving ships.
The aliens from the Gravulators influence the Hewns into thinking they are “saving the Substract” from other dangerous alien beings.
The poor Hewns are, unbeknown to them, then sold to nominator ships ‑ powerful, alien groups who try to gain even more power from the use and sale of Substract.
Integrate devices & weapons onto the Hewns to allow them to either mine the surface of Layodikea, or allow them to fight other Hewns.
The beings on the Gravulators lay sophisticated plating (also called armor) and integrate devices & weapons onto the Hewns to allow them to either mine the surface of Layodikea, or allow them to fight other Hewns.
Nominators therefor get the Hewns as ” turnkey biological robots” immediately usable (in some way) on the planet surface.
